Late Gurukkal Sankunni Panicker, father of present Gurukkal Sankara Narayana Menon was the last member of the Mudavungattil family on whom the title of Panicker was conferred by the Vettath Royal Highness. Male members of the Mudavungattil family were the commanders-in chief of the Vettath Raja. Then the members of this family were great deponents of Kalaripayatt and held the Gurustanam of the Royal family. The records of 1915 and 1925 state that Vallabhatta traditional Kalari was in existence since the Vettath Raja's regin began. This Kalari exists even now, at Niramaruthoor, Tirur Taluk. District, but it is merely kept as a Temple.Veerasree Gurukal Sankunni panicker had his training under his uncle the late eminent Gurukkal Krishna Panicker  Achen, disciple of Eravi alias Karunakara Panicker. He conducted classes in the states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and gave equal importance in the promotion of Marma chikiltsa and Kalaripayatt. In 1957 he established our present training centre SREE NARAYANA GURU SMARAKA VALLABHATTA KALARI SANGAM at Chavakkad, Trichur District and affiliated it to the sports council in 1959 (reg n N 14/590. Late Sankunni Panicker imparted elaborated training in Kalari to his sons Mr.Ravunnikutty Menon (Ayurveda Passed away) Ms Sreedhara Menon Gurukkal (Passsed away) Sankara Narayana Menon (Present Gurukkal) and Viswanathan Gurukkal (now adays keeping his own Vallabhatta Kalari in Kaladi Malappuram District). The sons of Late Sankunni Panicker belong to the Chundayil family at Vengaloor, Tirur Taluk,  a family where Kalaripayatt training has been traditionally imparted  for generations together under the auspicious of the Vettath Royal family. Sankunni Panicker's grandson's Krishnadas, Rajeev and Dinesh are taking daily classes and are assisting their father's massage treatments. Vallabhatta Kalari  Chavakkad is conducting Kalaripayatt workshops, demonstrations and also working with dancers for choreography work. We perform in India and Abroad.
